E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial comparison *PIX*

This movie has a fantastic new transfer. It did not get the blatant amateurish color timing change like his other movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

You will also notice that some CGI elements from the 2002 DVD release is now removed.

Prometheus comparison *PIX*

Reference audio and video quality.

To those with CRT's and Plasma viewing set this movie will show even better picture during the dark scenes. This is a great looking film. The use of practical effects instead of CGI in some scenes are a breath of fresh air. The story however . . . meh.

The French Connection comparison *PIX

This release is a perfect example where a "Director Approved" or "Director Supervised" does not mean anything to me. Initially this director claimed this is how his movie should look. Three years ago I did a review and my fellow AVSforum members agree (well, most of them) that he is out of his mind. It look so bad that the DVD release is still the best representation of the movie. This time the film's Director of Photography, Owen Roizman is involved. So, is it really better?

Just by looking at the 20th Century Fox logo of the original Blu-ray you can already see the atrocious digital manipulations. The new Signature Series now looks like film with the added resolution and sharpness from a high definition transfer.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High comparison *PIX*

The Blu-ray version has better specification resulting in the better image and sound quality. Even if its only a "copy and paste" job from HD DVD, the higher data rate gives Bluy-ray a better resolved film grain and detail. There is no added DNR or EE. Aside from that the transfer it still needs a proper high definition restoration. There are plenty of visible scratches, etc. that needs to be fixed.
